The block of accommodation was due for a full refurbishment, and in particular the college wanted to take the opportunity to revive the en-suites and communal areas.
It was important to the college that the new scheme was fresh and vibrant for students, but would also provide suitable accommodation for conference guests out of term.
Of particular importance was the refurbishment of the en-suites. They needed to look stylish, but also be easy to clean and maintain.
Finally, they needed to create meeting areas that would be private for client meetings and conference calls.
Project Statistics: 58 bedrooms and en-suites, 5 kitchens, communal areas
It is important to consider both the style and durability of everything that goes into a high wear project such as this. Although we went for a bold colour scheme, we decided it would lift the project. All our finishes were taken from high durability ranges – the flooring was bleach cleanable, fabrics were water repellent, splash backs in kitchens and showers were acrylic rather than grout that will need replacing every few years.
One of the key considerations is the style of the scheme. Students tastes have become a lot more sophisticated in recent years, they want stylish rooms that are home from home.
The next major consideration is durability. By choosing fabrics that are stain resistant and easy to clean we are able to select colours and finishes that are more interesting and less utilitarian. Keeping bathrooms and kitchens easy to clean, they present far better with the minimum of maintenance. Flooring that is also stain resistant allows the housekeeping team to deep clean it and return it to its original state.
