The barn was to be used by students aged 14 – 18 years old, attending summer school from all over the world, so they wanted to create a fun and vibrant space where they could congregate to play games, watch movies and generally form friendships.
The barn was a very large open space, so our challenge was to make it feel more welcoming, and to make good use of the space to allow students to undertake the many activities available without impinging on each others space!
Most important to our client was that the room felt welcoming to students who were a long way from home.
Budget: £25,000
Because the manor house and grounds are steeped in history, we decided to focus on sports and games of yester-years. We sourced sports memorabilia that would adorn the walls – this had the benefit of making the space feel less cavernous as well as adding interest.
We used flags from all over the world to adorn the roof space – again it served two purposes; to add some interest and to also lower the ceiling height in the minds eye. This resulted in making the space feel more cosy.
The furnishings were all contract quality, which meant they would stand up to student use. We chose items that were flexible in use and easy to move, as the students love to rearrange the space!
We also created a cinema room using lots of bespoke brightly coloured gaming chairs and bean bags for maximum comfort.
” Thank you for transforming the barn. The students are all making great use of the space“
