A BEDROOM FIT FOR A KING

Brief

  • Our client was a big football fan – especially for Man City
  • Loves playing with cars
  • Big Lego fan
  • The walls and high ceilings were very blank and the room felt unloved
  • The ensuite lacked personality and not inviting for a child to use

This was such a large bedroom, how did you make it feel more welcoming?

The room was incredibly large with high ceilings, so we decided to break it down into zones. We used room dividers to break the space in half – one side for sleeping and relaxing and the other as a play area. The room dividers also provided lots of much needed storage for toys etc. We used rugs to help separate the zones further and add some fun to the room.

What are the important considerations when designing a child’s room?

The most important thing is to design a scheme that will grow with the child. Ensuring furniture and the more expensive items will continue to work as they get older. It is easy to fall into the trap of buying small items or designs which are very child like – opting for neutral ‘grown up’ pieces will stand the test of time. We added lots of wall stickers, novelty Lego shelves and decorative lights which can easily be changed as the child grows up.
