The project brief was to design a relaxing, welcoming, and cosy living room. We took inspiration from our client’s artwork which had great sentimental value. Drawing on a mix of the colours within the picture we created a palette of teals, ochre, and charcoal. Our client loved the mid century look and had a fantastic retro arm chair they wanted to incorporate into the scheme. To complete the look, we introduced geometric patterns to add to the mid century feel.
Firstly we assessed the storage in the room, which led us to removing the existing built-in furniture as it was no longer being used. We repositioned the piano, so it was feature when you entered. The old brick fireplace was too dominant and encroaching into the room, so we added a simple hearth and beam above. We made use of a large rug in the ‘seating area’ to zone the room. The overall space felt much bigger and each space in the room had a definite purpose.
For a family living room, comfort is key, a space to relax in the day and evening. Once the designs were signed off, we worked with our clients on the final choices which involved visiting our upholsterers’ showroom to select the dimensions and exact fillings they wanted for their sofas – it’s so important to work with our clients to create the right sofa for them – that will not only look good, but be really comfortable!
We contacted Jill and Rosanna when our lounge refurbishment was many years overdue and I was lacking the confidence to go with the bold scheme that I craved.
After an initial consultation where we discussed our ideas and inspirations for the design they came back with a mood board which demonstrated immediately that they fully understood what we were looking for.
They, and their tradespeople, were a pleasure to work with throughout and we are thrilled with the result. We now have the comfortable and cosy lounge we always dreamed of.
Thank you.
