Designers Note

” The atmosphere in the room was completely transformed.   Every time I visit the room is now in use, which is great to see”

You were asked to make the room as flexible as you could, how did you achieve this?

Selecting furnishings which are easy to move around is the first thing.  Large inflexible pieces of furniture make moving and repurposing them very awkward.  Smaller square tables can be joined for bigger groups, but also provide dining for parties of 2.  Chairs of different height and design style help to break the space up visually, but also help create zones – coffee areas, dining and meeting areas.  Lastly, using mobile planters allows the club to physically divide the space and create more privacy for guests when required.

The room had lots of entrances and exits to the room, how did you manage to make it feel relaxing?

It’s true, the room had many thoroughfares.   The mobile planters will also entrances to be disguised a little or seating areas to be shielded from the comings and goings.  We added wall paper and texture wood panelling on the feature wall to give the room more depth and create a softer feel that simple painted walls.  We also added simple, neutral full length curtains to soften the scheme – these don’t detract from the view beyond in the day, and in the evening they seamlessly blend in with the walls – with LED downlights above to give them a warm glow.
