The room needed to be multi functional. How did the design meet those requirements?

The Winchester room has to work hard to cover all the different purposes, from meetings to children’s play area, conferences and a learning space. We extended the kitchen to add more storage and installed a dropped section on the counter for young people and wheelchair users. We designed two mobile kitchen units with power to be used anywhere in the church. We also reopened some original doors for additional access into the room. Commercial grade kitchen units and a speedy glass washer gave the scheme a practical and durable dimension.

What atmosphere were you trying to create in the room?

We removed the bright colours and introduced a more neutral palette to tie in with the stone and wood already in the church. As the room is used by all sections of the community we wanted to create a warm palette blending walnut wood with warm aqua tones to blend with the Cotswold feel.
