As one of our designers prepares to go on maternity leave this summer, we look at some of the current key trends in nursery design and the spaces that are becoming more stylish than our own bedrooms.

An abundance of plastic fantastic toys and bold primary colours are no where to be seen in this calming scheme. The use of neutral tones, a mix of natural materials and soft textures set the tone for a relaxed environment for your little arrival.

Added touches to achieve the look…

playing blocks

These beautifully crafted wooden blocks from littlestories.co.uk are not only educational but act as a stylish accessory for the perfect natural nursery. Use to style open shelving with fun words or your child’s name.

Changing basket

This handy but chic changing basket from naturalbabyshower.co.uk allows you to transform existing furniture that you would like to incorporate into the room into a practical changing space. The high sides keep your baby safe from rolling from a height.

Jute rug

Adding a rug to a nursery space is multi-functional. Not only are they aesthetically pleasing; adding colour and texture but they can be used to help preserve the flooring from soils and spills. This rug from Asiatic rugs will work perfectly in this scheme.

The themed nursery

Themed nurseries have always been a go-to for new mums-to-be and the on-trend theme of the moment is safari animals. Suitable for baby boys and girls, this theme is very adaptable and a fun way to get your little one’s imaginations going.

Added touches to achieve the look…

Felt Head

This stunning felt elephant head by Fiona Walker England would be a striking addition to this theme. Use alone or with a cluster of other animal heads of different sizes to create a feature wall.

Mustard blanket

Baby blankets are an essential item for new born babies so why not opt for stylish designs that will keep your baby snuggled and warm but also look fab in your home. This blanket from mabelandfox.com will do both. When not in use, style the room by draping over the side of the cot.

The traditional nursery

The traditional nursery gets a modern update in 2020. Simple white furniture is still a hit with this trend, sitting within a palette of soft greys. The classic pairing of baby pink and blue are replaced with grey-blues and dusty pinks.

Added touches to achieve the look…

bed canopy

Cot canopies are becoming increasingly popular again. Not only do they help to zone the space but they also create a cosy environment for the all important sleep time. This canopy from Oskoe living is made from 100% cotton and has cute pom-pom detail.

Curved cot

This oval shaped cot from Stokke is design focused and practical. Not only does the shape help to cocoon the baby, it’s also on wheels allowing it to be moved around the home freely. The shape means that it will fit perfectly into any space and will work brilliantly placed centrally in the room as a focal point.

feather pendant light

This pendant light from DAR lighting is a must have for this scheme. The feathers help to create a soft light in the room whilst also adding subtle texture. It’s the perfect modern addition to a traditional inspired nursery space.
